The client approached us on this occasion to convert a old printing factory into flats.
The old printing factory and adjoining stone building are situated within the curtilage of a listed building which was previously the Corn Mill serving St Austell. These buildings are steeped in character and it was crucial we respected and maintained those characteristics when redeveloping this historic building.
In terms of design a number of concepts were discussed until we determined that the building would be best suited to a total of 7 units. The older part of the building was turned into 3 apartments, plus an additional 4 apartments in the newer part. The area to the front of the development made for all important parking space given its location in the western quarter of the popular town.
A & K Architectural Services carried out all design works and gained planning permission on this challenging site.
Following this we compiled all building regulation documentation and CDM legislation to enable the contractor to undergo the conversion.
As you can see these modern flats have added valuable dwellings to the community of St Austell whilst giving a great deal of respect for the historic environment in which they are situated.
